Eurotecnica’s Euromel® Melamine Technology stands as the world leader in producing high-quality melamine, setting benchmarks for innovation, sustainability, and efficiency.
The proprietary Euromel® process is the only technology offering Total-Zero-Pollution, generating no liquid effluents or solid wastes. This environmental compliance, combined with its unmatched operational reliability, makes Euromel® the preferred choice for melamine producers worldwide. Eurotecnica’s licensees operate 32 Euromel® plants globally, with a total licensed capacity of over 1.4 million tonnes annually and cumulative production exceeding 8 million tonnes.
As a high-pressure, non-catalytic process, Euromel® has been at the forefront of melamine production since the first plant was implemented in the United States in 1963. A defining feature of this technology is its ammonia-based purification system, which has been integral since its inception. By eliminating the need for hazardous add-on chemicals, the system leverages ammonia, a naturally available and fully recyclable resource within fertilizer complexes. As ammonia is not consumed during production, Euromel® ensures efficient and sustainable integration with upstream operations.
Building on decades of innovation, the latest generation of Euromel® Melamine Technology continues to set the standard in the industry with the lowest OPEX, reduced CAPEX through streamlined plant design, and exceptional performance metrics. Euromel® melamine, derived directly from urea, is renowned for its purity and consistency—qualities that end-users demand and Eurotecnica delivers. Trusted worldwide for its seamless integration, low energy consumption, zero pollution, and high reliability, Euromel® Melamine Technology is shaping the future of sustainable melamine production.
Market
Melamine, a versatile compound, is integral to applications such as kitchen worktops, laminate flooring, furniture, dinnerware, banknotes, and automotive coatings. With a global market size of 2.2 million tonnes per year and a steady annual growth rate of 5.5%, demand for melamine continues to rise, driven by its essential role across diverse and growing industries. Over the past three decades, global demand has shown a consistent upward trend, underscoring its indispensability.
Melamine production is typically integrated with natural gas or syngas-based facilities, offering a strategic advantage for long-term profitability. Its average selling price, 3 to 6 times higher than raw urea feedstock depending on the region, significantly enhances the overall profitability of fertilizer complexes while serving as a hedge against market fluctuations. This pricing dynamic, combined with melamine’s broad industrial applications, solidifies its position as a high-value product and a key driver of profitability in the chemical and fertilizer industries.
Applications
With a nitrogen content of 66% by mass, Euromel® Melamine has the highest nitrogen concentration among solid nitrogen-based compounds and is one of the most environmentally friendly flame retardants, as it releases neither dioxins nor halogen by-products during combustion.
With a melting point of 345 °C, Euromel® Melamine demonstrates flame-retardant properties by sublimating at approximately 350 °C, absorbing significant heat and reducing the surface temperature of degrading polymers exposed to fire.
Euromel® Melamine is a premium choice for downstream applications, where its fire performance-enhancing properties are highly valued. When combined with formaldehyde, it forms high-performance resins extensively used in laminates and advanced plastics, solidifying its role in a wide range of critical industries.
